A Close Look at Close Reading Strategies

DESCRIPTION:

80% of the Common Core Standards require text based evidence to support answers. To truly engage with text and draw evidence from nonfiction, informational readings, close reading strategies are imperative. During this session, participants not only learn about specific strategies but also learn the reasons behind the renewed focus on text based evidence and how it relates to career readiness and other 21st Century Skills. Teacher teams use close reading strategies aligned to standards, compare the connection between career skills and the new standards, create lessons which use close reading strategies.

  • Develop proficiency with close reading strategies
