Introduction to Applied Verbal Behavior

DESCRIPTION:

This presentation is an introduction to Applied Verbal Behavior (AVB), with a focus on language­-based teaching and the methodology of BF Skinner. Participants will be provided with an overview of the fundamentals of a verbal behavior program, as well as ways to identify and implement effective teaching procedures. Participants will also be introduced to classifications of language and will be given strategies for using motivation to build a positive relationship and instructional control. This session takes best practices from special needs disciplines and applies them to enhancing any classroom’s instruction.

OBJECTIVES:

At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the key components of Applied Verbal Behavior (AVB)
  • Identify effective teaching procedures
  • Define classifications of language
  • Determine ways to effectively build a positive relationship with learners
  • Identify ways to capture and contrive motivation
